The Value Is in the Continuity
Most complex glasshouse projects pass through at least three separate organisations:
one that advises on scope
one that delivers the works
one that maintains the facility afterward
Each handover creates the conditions for something to be lost — operational context, the reason a decision was made, knowledge of what was built and why.
By the time a fault develops or an upgrade is needed, the people who understood the facility are no longer in the building.
The maintenance team is servicing equipment whose history they did not witness. The advisory team, if re-engaged, is starting from documentation.
BM Greenhouses was built to keep that continuity intact.
Advisory input, delivery oversight and maintenance are handled by the same person, informed by the same operational knowledge, across the full life of the facility.
The longer the relationship, the more the knowledge that precedes every decision.
Byron Meyer
Byron Meyer leads technical judgement across every BM Greenhouses engagement.
Byron Meyer’s background covers the full project lifecycle: conception, specification, design, delivery oversight and long-term maintenance. That combination is structurally uncommon in a sector where those functions are routinely separated. His experience spans complex research and institutional glasshouse facilities, estate and botanic environments, and commercial growing operations.
He designed the canopy structure at RHS Garden Wisley in a previous role, was appointed to maintain the site across multiple structures when BM Greenhouses was established, and subsequently delivered the canopy screening solution — from diagnostic review through fabrication and installation — that the original build had left incomplete. That full account is on the Case Studies page.
He is one of the few people in the UK glasshouse sector who can take a client from initial brief through to post-handover support without that client having to manage continuity across multiple organisations.
Why This Is Harder to Replicate Than a Service List
Established contractors can offer maintenance.
They can offer advisory. They can offer delivery. What they find structurally difficult is sustaining investment in pre-contract operational knowledge — being genuinely present in a facility before a project exists — when revenue depends on procurement appointments. The incentive is to deploy senior technical time where a contract already exists.
BM Greenhouses enters through maintenance.
That funds the relationship and builds the operational knowledge. When a project eventually emerges, the brief reflects how the facility actually works. The delivery that follows is grounded in the same knowledge. The maintenance afterward is informed by what was built and why.
Professional reference
“I found Byron to be very helpful in providing technical information which gave me the opportunity to discuss and fine-tune the details of the build proposal. During the building and after handover I worked with Byron closely dealing with maintenance schedules and any repairs as they occurred. I have always found Byron to be very professional to deal with and happy to share his knowledge and expertise to work towards solutions as needed.”
